Key Takeaways

Brunt claims their boots fit true to size, though I’ve found the best fit is half a size smaller than what you’d get with sneakers or dress shoes. I recommend ordering a half size smaller than you would with the most common shoe size in your closet. Or if you own Danner, Red Wings, Thorogoods, or Wolverines, get the same size. If they’re a bit tight, you can remove the first layer insole for an ideal fit.

When I ordered my first pair of Brunt work boots, I ended up with a decent amount of heel slip.

I had to do an exchange, and I don’t want you to go through that hassle.

Even though Brunt’s return and exchange policy is fantastic, it’s better for everyone if we just get our Brunt boots sizing correct the first time, right?

I put together this guide on everything you need to know before buying a pair of Brunt work boots so you can get the proper fit, first try.

A Guide to Getting the Correct Boot Size From Brunt

Brunt Workwear does something I’ve never seen another brand do, and it gives you an excellent “margin-of-error” when buying your new boots.

Brunt offers sizes 7-14, with half sizes between 8 and 11.

They claim to offer wide EE widths, though that’s not really true.

Brunt gives you the option to go wide on any pair of boots by adding two insoles, which is completely unique in the boot space.

With boots, apparel, socks, and insoles, Brunt has everything you want with you at a job site. Except a cooler. You might want to bring that yourself.

If you’re a wide size, simply remove the grey insert below the main insole, and voila: you’ve got a EE width boot. Nifty, huh?

But for this reason, I actually disagree with the standard sizing explanation Brunt offers on their site.

I’m a size 10.5 in my dress shoes and sneakers. I consider that my “true size.” That said, when I wear other boots like Red Wing, Timberland, Wolverine, and Thorogood, I wear a size 10.

Because Brunt says “true size,” I opted for the size 10.5 when I ordered my unlined Marin boots, which felt a half-size too large for me.

Brunt has an awesome exchange service, so it was super easy for me to swap my boots out for a size 10, which fit me perfectly. You can learn more about that exchange policy below.

When you’re ordering your Brunt boots, I recommend picking up your boot size, not your sneaker size. Sounds pretty obvious, right? Well, the wording got me, and I don’t want the same thing to happen to you.

Even if your boots are a bit too snug at first, the great thing about Brunt boots is that you can just remove that second insert and that’ll give you a bit more room and should lead you to the perfect fit.

It’s better to err on the side of the smaller size with Brunt because they have that back-up “widening” option.

Brunt boots run a half size smaller than sneakers and dress shoes. Their sizing is similar to Red Wing, Wolverine, and Timberland.

If your most common size in your shoe closet is a 9.5, I recommend getting a size 9 in Brunt boots. If you wear a size 9 in Red Wings or Wolverines, I recommend a size 9 in Brunt.

If you need a wide EE size, you’ll get the same boot size as the D-width, but you’ll just need to remove that grey insert below the main insole and that’ll give your foot a little more breathing room.

Brunt Marin

The Brunt Marin is an excellent boot for you if you need a solid work boot and you’re on a budget. And if you’re not entirely sure on what kind of fit you should get for your boots, the Marin has some customizable features (like the second removable insole) that ensure you’ll have comfort in your boots.

Do Brunt boots run big?

Yes, in my experience Brunt boots have a similar sizing to other heritage brands like Red Wing, Timberland, and Wolverine. That means they run about a half-size larger than dress shoes and sneakers. So if you commonly get a size 10.5 sneaker, then you should opt for the size 10 Brunt boot. If your boots are feeling a little snug, you can remove one or both of the inserts to give yourself more room.

To help you get the right size for you Brunt work boots, I put together the sizing chart below:

Note that the US to EU sizing conversion follows American boot conventions, not US dress shoes.

The EU is more standard with their boot and shoe sizing, whereas we in the US tend to vary a bit more—at least that’s been my experience.

Brunt Return Policy

Brunt has an excellent returns and exchange policy. There’s free shipping on all boots, plus you can return your new boots for 30 days, no questions asked.

Brunt will send a pre-paid shipping label for you to return your boots if you don’t like them, or you can do an easy exchange for a different size if you need to (with this guide, I doubt you will).

One of the things that really impressed me about Brunt is that you can actually wear your boots outside for up to 30 days and still return them.

Most boot brands offer some sort of free return policy, but almost all of them require that the boots are basically in mint-condition. That’s not the case for Brunt. You can take them to the jobsite and beat them up, and if you’re not satisfied in 30 days, you can return them.

It’s one of the best return policies I’ve seen, and I’ve checked out a lot of brands.

That said, if you’re getting some of their apparel, you’ll need to return those items in their unwashed, unworn condition, which is standard practice.

Conclusion

You’re ready to get a new pair of Brunt work boots.

I personally really like the Marin unlined—it’s one of the most comfortable work boots I’ve worn, and I love that there’s the second removable insert so you can adjust based on if your feet are swelling or if you’re wearing a thick pair of socks that day.

Like I said, I doubt you’ll need to use Brunt’s return policy after reading this guide, but you can rest assured knowing that you have 30 days of free exchanges and returns, and Brunt makes the whole process very easy.

So which Brunts are you getting?
