BootSpy was founded in 2020 with a simple mission: test and review popular men’s boots and give a real, honest opinion.
At the time, the whole web was filled with boot care guides from people who seemed to have never even seen a pair of boots. And forget about them having any experience with true high quality boot makers.
At the very beginning, we set out some ground-rules for how we’d do our boot reviews and care guides. You can read our full review process here, but in short:
- we buy the boots
- we test them ourselves and take our own pictures
- we don’t take sponsorships from brands for reviews
- and we give our honest opinions on whether we like the boots or not
BootSpy is here to take the mystery out of shopping for boots.
We don’t simply throw opinions out: we dive into the gritty details so you know what you’re paying for, and whether or not it’s worth it.

The BootSpy editorial team is constantly growing, with new contributors adding their expertise every month.
Managing Editor
Travis is an Emmy and Edward R Murrow award winning journalist with 10 years reporting experience with NBC and CBS. He’s followed stories around the world: into the path of Hurricane Michael in Florida, with Alaskan dogs on the trail of The Iditarod, and in the belly of a C-130 with US Paratroopers off the coast of Australia. Travis left the news to live a less action packed life with his wife and son in Southern California, but he’s still passionate about quality reporting and heritage style boots.
Contributing Writers
A native New Yorker and Heritage Fashion enthusiast with a keen eye for details. Focusing mainly on boots, but with interests in denim, jackets, and more.
Buster is obsessed with fabrics, weaves, men’s heritage and vintage garments, particularly indigo denim and boots and how it all melds together in the culture we create. These are the things that keep him going, that keep him interested and inspired. When he isn’t obsessing over clothing, he’s taking care of a growing plant collection, working on a graphic design project or reading a good manga.
LA-born, New York-based lover of menswear, watches, and culture. His work is featured in many prominent menswear publications and reaches hundreds of thousands of guys every year. He knows a good boot when he sees one.
Alex’s boot journey began when he inherited a beat up pair of chukkas from his father. Those boots are long gone (he wore them into the ground despite them being a size too big), but his love of hearty footwear still remains.
Andrew is a kayaker, paddleboarder, runner, weightlifter, former martial artist, DIY handyman/home improvement nut, tech geek, headphone-addict, sci-fi and fantasy author, and lover of comic books, movies, and TV shows. He’s interested in pretty much everything, and takes becoming an expert very seriously–but nothing more seriously than analyzing every stitch, thread, and seam of what makes his favorite boots so freakin’ comfortable.
Isaiah has been asking deep questions since a very young age. He writes and teaches on subjects that he is passionate about; such as the Bible, antiques, art, pocket knives, men’s wear, and boots. In his spare time, you will find him learning something new, playing with his knife collection, spending money on boots, singing out loud, teaching teens at his church, or frantically typing out ideas for future articles or lesson plans. You can contact him via email at isaiahtinquiries@gmail.com.
Jon has a passion for all things retro, especially if it’s themed around the 80s or has a classic western look. He spends his time writing about 80s culture, history, technology, and western boots. His lifelong ambition is to bring back the 80s, he also lives for the day when cowboy boots become compulsory. You can reach him at copywriterchap@copywriterchap.com.
